Gary enlisted in the Navy. He started his tour in Vietnam on December 27, 1969. He was killed on February
14, 1970 at the age of 19. He was a crewmember on PBR-95, one of several vessels of River Division 543.
Gary had already served in Korea during the Pueblo Incident and because of that service was not required
to serve in Vietnam. He chose to go anyway, feeling it was the right thing to do. There is further
information on Gary's service on the Virtual Wall website on his page.
On February 24, 1970 a Service of Commemoration for Gary was held at Hoi An, Vietnam. Here is a copy of
the
program. Thanks to Mike Wiley for providing the program.
